Counter Narrative– Hangul: A Typographic Legacy


Self Initiated This poster highlights Hangul’s history and transformation, offering a fresh perspective beyond Western-centric design narratives. By placing Hangul and Chinese characters side by side, it invites viewers to explore their connection while emphasizing Hangul’s unique identity and independence.

Inspired by memorial engravings and traditional Hanji paper, the design blends stone textures and structured grids to reflect Hangul’s journey from its roots to modern typography. Bold, geometric typefaces, including Univers Next Pro, reinforce this connection, mirroring the strong, structured forms of early Hangul type.

Through texture, typography, and layout, this work celebrates Hangul’s cultural significance and enduring impact.
