Tremaine Collection–Web App
Synoptic Office Team
In partnership with the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation, we strategically repositioned, redesigned, and launched the Tremaine Collection, an interpretation of a virtual museum that brings together one of the finest collections of contemporary art in the nation. Emily Hall Tremaine and Burton G. Tremaine Sr. were visionaries in the modern art community, often supporting and championing young innovative artists that went on to make history through their work. Their friendships with artists such as Jasper Johns, Bridget Riley, and Andy Warhol are told through immersive stories on the site that integrate a collection of personal letters, photographs, and other archival materials that form the Emily Hall Tremaine Papers at the Smithsonian Archives of American Art.
Goals & Objectives
The site captures the legacies of Emily Hall Tremaine, a female collector ahead of her time, and Burton G. Tremaine. It illuminates a significant moment: the birth of contemporary art and posits a new kind of digital museum that interweaves artists’ stories and makes archival data more accessible.
Results & Impact
The site has become an invaluable tool for researchers and art enthusiasts. Historic materials such as those found in the Emily Hall Tremaine Papers at the Smithsonian are situated within an art historical context and presented alongside artworks, bringing the stories behind the works to life.
