Recylce Me
Informative Search Engine
Spring 2022Saint Louis, United States
Ever
since I realized the existence of a trash mountain on a beautiful island of the
Maldives, I have been obsessed with recycling. Every time I ask people about
how they recycle and how much they consider the importance of it, they usually
say “Don’t consider as much as I should,” or, “I don’t really care.” I started
to research deeply about any official world statistics related to trash and
information about the current status of trash causing global warming. One of
the statistics showed that the world’s number one area with the most un-recycled
trash is Michigan in the US; St. Louis, where my college is located, was 5th in
the US. So, I decided to build a website that could help people realize the
importance of recycling and take action right away. Recycle Me is a search tool
for residents in St. Louis to identify methods of how to recycle different
plastics effectively and encourage them to make a small change of protecting
the Earth from the vast amount of plastic waste.
Research and Ideations
*The title, Plastics Counterattack, is named to highlight the two opposite faces of “plastic.” In the beginning, plastic was one of the great inventions in human history. It definitely provides convenience to humans, but it also causes a great global warming, which in the end will affect human life.
