The Journal of Sensory

Application using Unity Engine

June - September, 2022
When we want to capture our favorite moment, we take out our smartphones and snap a picture or record a video to preserve the moment. However, sometimes when we open our photo album and look at the videos or photos we have taken, we feel something lacking; we feel unsatisfied for not being able to reproduce the impression 100% of the time.

I theorized that what we really want to capture is the atmosphere or feeling of that time.
How can I express that?

In order to accurately describe the feeling or atmosphere of the moment, I thought that the scent from the moment was also important, and I searched for various sensors related to the sense of smell for this. But to my surprise, there were no related sensors. Instead, there were sensors that detect a few gasses. In the end, I realized once again that the smell, touch, and taste that humans experience through their sensory organs are subjective results accumulated by humans through numerous data.

Based on these results, I created an application that composes moments into abstract images by adding a gas detection sensor to the camera and microphone used in existing smartphones.
